UMTS Licence application
Company/organization: 3 (Hi3G)
Assignment description: 3, which is owned by Hutchison Whampoa and Investor in Sweden, assigned Stelacon to write and be responsible for 3's 3G/UMTS license application. Post och Telestyrelsen, the Swedish National Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) were to grant four licenses, through a so-called "beauty contest" in which applicants had to demonstrate their financial and technical competence to fulfill the requirements and obligations that PTS had set. For the assignment Stelacon managed and coordinated close to 30 in-house and external persons (ranging from ICT consultants, Telco analysts, and market investigators; to technical specialists, and investment bankers) in order to write as competitive application as possible in order to gain one of the four highly attractable UMTS licences for which a number of companies competed for.


Above illustration gives brief pictures of the licence application process set up and used by Stelacon in the task of acquiring a UMTS licence for Hi3G.
Success: PTS judged Hi3G's license application to be the one holding the best financing structure and plans of coverage and extension. As a result of Stelacon's work, a global cooperation between Investor AB and Hutchison Whampoa Ltd. was initiated.


Irish FDI in Sweden
Company/organization: Enterprise Ireland
Assignment description: Enterprise Ireland is the Irish counterpart to Swedish ISA. Stelacon was for close to two years Enterprise Ireland's analyst and strategic advisor on FDI issues in Sweden. Stelacon's assignments for Enterprise Ireland has included market entry issues, mapping out and identifying business partners, and recommendations for successful interactions with mobile operators and banks. Stelacon also attended market workshops both in Sweden and in Ireland, and has held the role of industry experts in private meetings with firms entering Sweden.
Success: Through Stelacon's work and effort, Enterprise Ireland has gained both presence and a well functioning organization in Sweden; which has helped Irish companies to establish contact and cooperation with Swedish companies. Through the collaboration between Enterprise Ireland and Stelacon, Stelacon has helped a number of firms with analysis of, and strategic guidance for entry into the Swedish ICT-market.


Investment guide and reference for FDI in Swedish telemetric and telecom services
Company/organization: France Telecom
Assignment description: Market description focusing on Swedish telemetric and telecom services offered by mobile operators in terms of machine-to-machine, and consumer-to-machine communication; such as automated data exchange, and activity order through remote control built on e.g. GSM-technology. The description mapped out consortiums and alliances present in the market, suppliers, platforms, applications to market approaches and business models in use, operator's role in the task of service promotion, and last but not least market type and size.
Success: Stelacon's analysis and description of the Swedish telemetric and telecom services by mobile operators served as a guide and reference to France Telecom's strategic decisions of their role in the Swedish market.


Market investigation of use of mobile datacom
Company/organization: Post och Telestyrelsen - the Swedish National Post and Telecom Agency - (PTS)
Assignment: Investigation, mapping out, and analysis of the mobile data communications market, and examples of users of mobile services within the private and public sector in Sweden. The assignment required a number of in-depth interviews with firms ranging in the mobile datacom value-chain from manufacturers, to integrators and ultimate corporate users/buyers. Close to 15 of this type of interviews were held.
Success: A number of different examples of use of mobile services were brought forward illustrating firm's and organization's use of mobile datacom services to yield benefits for their areas of business and work. Examples that were brought forward range from personnel scheduling and planning through SMS sent by employer to employees, to examples covering services built upon private radio systems in order to enhance customer availability and time-to-market. Apart from finding and delivering examples of good use of mobile services, the investigation also investigated users, manufacturers, integrators, and operators view toward mobile services and service built upon 3G technology.
